How we work

We are dedicated to the fight against cancer and its effect on the individual and the family. To this end we aim to promote partnerships between statutory, private and voluntary sectors, which together will develop first class cancer research and services. We will become the go to organisation for the people of Norfolk and surrounding counties when cancer support and information services are required.

Our 6 strategic development priorities

Support

Through our cancer support and information centres, online and telephone-based support, we help local cancer patients and their family and friends to improve their quality of life, physical health, and mental wellbeing.

Research

We are proud to invest in ground-breaking projects taking place in Norfolk at the world-renowned Norwich Research Park. The work, carried out by leading scientists in their field, is making a local, national and international difference in the fight against cancer now and for tomorrow.

Over the past seven years Big C has invested £2.1 million into cancer research carried out in Norfolk at the Norwich Research Park.

Equipment

Big C provides funding for vital medical equipment in our region’s hospitals which helps specialists diagnose and treat different cancers in better ways than ever before.

Education

Big C’s education division provides interventional and presentational education programmes for the general public and healthcare professionals.

Big C embraces innovation in all practice, collaborating widely with partners such as the NHS via a holistic cancer care programme Nourish & Nurture, through ambitious initiatives to engage with hard-to-reach groups and via Big C’s Big Bum, an inflatable human bowel used for awareness and education at the region’s county shows and medical fairs!

Income generation

Big C’s community of dedicated individuals, businesses and groups work together to improve the lives of local people living with cancer, by raising vital funds.

Community fundraising and gifts-in-wills provide key income for Big C’s work supporting local people with a cancer diagnosis and their families.

People

Big C’s people are our service users, their loved ones, our trustees, staff, volunteers and fundraisers. Without them, we would be unable to achieve anything.

Sadly, many of us will be touched by cancer. It is this and knowing the work we are doing is making a real difference, that unites our passion in working for Big C.
